Why The Chicago Bulls Do The Deal
Really, the Bulls’ story is unfortunate. This team invested a lot in their current core. They surrendered young players and draft picks to put it together. By all accounts, this was a debacle.
With that said, it may not be tenable for this front office to undergo a lengthy rebuild. They’ve already come this far. Still, getting younger and accumulating some draft capital would be optimal.
That’s what the Bulls are doing here. They may still be a playoff hopeful following this move, but they’ll have flipped LaVine for a player who’s considerably younger and a first-round pick.
Herro is only 23-years-old, which makes him an intriguing candidate for the Bulls to make a focus of a younger core in a restart. Nikola Vucevic is a free agent this offseason and DeMar DeRozan could be moved in a trade ahead of the final year of his contract.

The Bulls would be able to also see what Patrick Williams is capable of achieving when filling a more substantial role, which is important given he was a No. 4 overall pick. In general, it’s just time to start fresh with a younger core.
Should the Heat make the opposite move?
