Chicago Bulls Receive: C Deandre Ayton, G/F Landry Shamet, 2026 First-Round PIck (Swap – PHX), 2028 First-Round Pick (Swap – PHX)
Phoenix Suns Receive: G/F Zach LaVine
That said, the amount of talent currently in the NBA is absurd. You must have a lot of it to play for the championship. Stockpiling B and C list stars may no longer cut it.
On the surface, having multiple star players may seem like a formula for contention. It doesn’t necessarily always go that way. For example, look at the Bulls. Zach LaVine, DeMar DeRozan, and Nikola Vucevic could all be said to be star players.
The Bulls may have thought they’d assembled a superteam. They thought wrong. This team didn’t even make the playoffs. With that in mind, don’t be surprised if the Bulls make major changes this summer.
Before the Bulls can accomplish much of substance as contenders, they will need to completely start over when it is possible to do so. They could be reaching that point this offseason after another disappointing season that featured them falling well short of their intended goal.
NBA NEWS & TRADE RUMORS: Zach LaVine, Chicago Bulls & Phoenix Suns Updates
Vucevic will be a free agent this offseason, and adding a younger threat like Deandre Ayton could be an appealing option as they reconfigure the roster. If he plays well in an expanded role, perhaps the Bulls could trade him for more value to further a transaction cycle.
Could this be the right change?
