We’ll level with you here. We didn’t know they’d be getting involved. We wrote that slide with a different trade in mind. Sometimes, writing hypothetical trades is an imperfect science. 

We almost sent Markkanen to the Lakers in exchange for Mo Bamba, Vanderbilt, the Lakers’ 2029 first-rounder, and a swap. Almost. We saw some issues in the end. 

Firstly, one wonders if a reunion between Utah and Vanderbilt is viable this early. More broadly, that simply isn’t enough in return for a young player who might make All-NBA like Markannen.
