Why The Brooklyn Nets Do The Deal 

Whether or not you like this trade for the Nets will be a matter of personal preference. 

Acquiring Beal probably doesn’t get them into the NBA Finals. It may not even get them past the first round of the playoffs. This is a lot of draft capital to sink into a player that won’t carry their franchise. 

On the other hand, the Nets have already sunk a lot of draft capital into a player who won’t carry their franchise. The Nets sent the Houston Rockets three first-round picks and four pick swaps in exchange for James Harden, and he’s a Philadelphia 76er. 

With that in mind, the Nets won’t benefit from tanking unless they make a trade with the Rockets. If they insist on staying competitive, this is a good deal.

It has them landing their best offensive player and getting off of Simmons’ contract in the same move.
