Sometimes, the question isn’t whether a team needs a star. The question is how big of a star do they need? 

Here’s a related question: how much draft capital should they surrender to land that star? At what point is a player not worth mortgaging that much of their future for? 

For example, look at Bradley Beal. He’s one of the more gifted scorers in the NBA. Still, he hasn’t even come close to leading his Wizards to a title. He’s probably worth two or three first-round picks on his own. 

On the other hand, Ben Simmons doesn’t even look remotely like a star anymore. In fact, some would say that he’s got the worst contract in the NBA.
