Why The Boston Celtics Do The Deal
There is one obvious caveat that comes with this deal for the Celtics. The trade is not going to take place if the team wins the NBA championship this season.
There is a very good chance that they will. It is safe to say that this team is a two-way wrecking ball. However, if they fail to make it to the Finals at all, they may want to consider an exit strategy for Brown if they don’t make it even that far.
There is no doubt that flipping him for Towns is a smart move. As a result of this deal, the Celtics would have some flexibility going forward.
There is an option for them to run Towns alongside Tatum in an all-offense look, or they can move Tatum to the 3 and have Robert Williams III next to Towns instead of Tatum.

This also lands them one of the best offensive big men in the history of the NBA. It would appear that Brown will be leaving this summer, so that seems like a strong consolation prize in the long run.
In the event that it works out, the Celtics may once again be the envy of the NBA.
