Why The Dallas Mavericks Do The Deal
This is a no-brainer for Dallas. That’s because this team’s needs are painfully obvious.
Specifically, they need secondary ball handling. Doncic can’t do it on his own. Spencer Dinwiddie is nice, but he’s not a second option on a serious NBA contender.
Perhaps Brogdon isn’t either. At the same time, this is a nice player. Brogdon makes a two-way impact, and he can create for himself and others in half-court sets.
This deal doesn’t force Dallas to break the bank, either. If a move for Zach LaVine or Bradley Beal becomes available, they may prefer it – but it will cost them.

This deal only costs them swap rights that, if necessary, they could still trade.
That sounds like a move that would improve their situation.
