Every NBA team is in its own unique situation. That’s part of the fun of following the league.
Some teams are clearly title contenders. They’re winning the majority of their games, and there’s little reason to believe that will stop. For example, look at the Boston Celtics.
Other teams are aspiring to contend, but it feels like they’re missing a piece. They may have a superstar player, but the supporting cast around him isn’t strong enough. The Dallas Mavericks fit that description.
Finally, some teams are in a slightly more ambitious place. Perhaps they were expected to tank the season, but they’ve been surprisingly competitive.
Those teams generally still aren’t serious contenders. Here, we’re thinking about the Utah Jazz.
