Why The Atlanta Hawks Do The Deal
One could make the case that these two sides made the wrong trades this summer. The Hawks should have pursued Gobert, and the Wolves could have used Murray.
It’s too late for that. On the other hand, it isn’t too late to pair Murray with Towns – it would just have to happen in Atlanta.
It should make for a suitable pairing. Towns’ elite floor spacing would make up for Murray’s defenses on that end. Meanwhile, Murray is one of the best point-of-attack defenders in the NBA – he’d at least minimize Towns’ lack of rim protection.
Perhaps this isn’t optimal for the Hawks. Young is younger than Towns and may have more raw trade value.

At the same time, recent rumors suggest that Young may want out. If that’s true, they’re trading a superstar for another one here.
Even if he’s limited on the defensive end, that’s as much as they can ask for.
