Atlanta Hawks Receive: F/C Karl-Anthony Towns
Minnesota Timberwolves Receive: G Trae Young
In fact, these two teams, and the way they’ve responded to their franchise players’ limitations, have a lot of parallels.
We already touched on the Wolves’ Gobert acquisition. The Hawks made a similar decision this summer. They acquired Dejounte Murray to make up for Young’s inability to guard the point-of-attack.
Unfortunately, that pairing has proven problematic on offense. Murray isn’t much of a shooter, so he doesn’t compliment Young when he has the ball. Meanwhile, Young is such a gifted playmaker that he ought to have the ball – often.
The Wolves have run into a similar dilemma. Acquiring Gobert to protect the rim while Towns can’t made some sense.

Unfortunately, Towns can’t guard the perimeter either. Meanwhile, pairing the two big men has hurt Minnesota’s pace.
Would trading Towns for Young bring them up to speed?
