Why The Atlanta Hawks Do The Deal 

This won’t be an easy pill for the Hawks to swallow. 

In fact, they probably won’t be swallowing it any time soon. The Hawks will exhaust possibilities before moving Young. At the same time, it’s worth looking at the reasons that could be an option. 

Young may be the worst defender in the NBA. Yes, he’s so special on the offensive end that he makes up for it, but the point stands – building around him requires some concessions. 

It’s also been reported that he’s not getting along with head coach Nate McMillian. He didn’t get along with Lloyd Pierce either.

Here’s a rule of thumb: when a bottom 5 defender can’t get along with coaches, you can at least justify trading them. 

Even if it would be a wildly unpredictable move.
