Why The Miami Heat Do The Deal
This may not be the deal most Heat fans are expecting. Realistically, they have a hole at the 4, and Gordon Hayward is a 3.
For that matter, so is Jimmy Butler. He’s merely been miscast at the 4 this year on account of that hole. Should the Heat really target another playmaking wing?
Sure. This deal may not fix a weakness for the Heat, but it does allow them to double down on a strength. Adding a dynamic playmaker like Hayward to their offense should help what’s been a stagnant half-court attack in 2022-23.
Finally, this deal also helps them get off of Robinson’s burdensome contract. Hayward’s is larger, but it only runs for half the time. That financial flexibility may come in handy in the future.
