Why The Brooklyn Nets Do The Deal

If this deal were on the table, the Nets should pounce on it – and not even for the sake of Ingram. 

As it stands, the Lakers project to be a lottery team. By making this deal, the Nets could land in the Victor Wembanyama sweepstakes.

Moreover, they only owe a pick swap to the Houston Rockets this year. They could conceivably walk away from the next draft with Wembanyama, and one of the other top prospects like Cam Whitmore, Nick Smith, or Dariq Whitehead. 

Of course, they’d be adding those prospects to a team already featuring Ben Simmons and Ingram. Even if we assume Kyrie Irving is gone, that’s an extremely appealing situation. Suddenly, the Nets would have a head start on one of the best rebuilds in the NBA.
