Why The New Orleans Do The Deal
Here’s the thing: Brandon Ingram, in many respects, is a poor man’s Kevin Durant.
Think about it. They’re both long, rangy wings with the ball-handling and shot-creation chops to be primary options. Moreover, they’re both good defenders who could probably be better if they didn’t have to conserve energy for the offensive end. All told, these two are very similar players.
Durant is, simply put, better. Given their age discrepancy, that’s only likely to be true for another season or two. In other words, this deal has the Pelicans making an all-in push for an NBA title.
That feels like a push worth making. Williamson appears to be healthy: the inside/outside dynamic between those two ought to be impossible to guard.

Moreover, with solid supporting players like CJ McCollum, Herb Jones, and Jonas Valanciunas, these Pelicans are built to win.
Why not go all the way and trade for Durant? Of course, it takes two to make a trade. Is this the right move for the Nets?
