It’s hard to believe it’s come to this. Not long ago, Irving’s value would have been astronomically higher. 

Let’s circle back to that tendency to attract controversy. Irving is a lightning rod. By now, it feels like negative news surrounds him on an annual basis. 

Last season, his unwillingness to take the COVID-19 vaccine was the culprit. Everyone is entitled to have principles. Unfortunately, Irving’s cost him the ability to participate in a huge chunk of the 2021-22 NBA season. 

This year, Irving has endorsed an anti-Semitic film. We don’t even feel comfortable touching that subject, other than to say that all forms of bigotry are abhorrent.
