The 2024 NBA Draft is one that talent evaluators aren’t very high on. There isn’t a bonafide star like in the 2023 draft when Victor Wembanyama was the clear-cut No. 1 prospect and considered to be generational.
But, the 2024 NBA Draft is going to have plenty of storylines that people will want to follow. How high in the draft will Purdue big man Zach Edey be selected? How many UConn players will hear their names called, especially if they are able to repeat as National Champions?
But, the storyline that trumps them all is will Bronny James be selected. According to NBA insider Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium, James has officially declared for the 2024 NBA Draft. However, he is maintaining his flexibility to return to college should he choose and has entered the transfer portal as well.
Entering the portal isn’t a huge surprise as the head coach who recruited him to USC, Andy Enfield, accepted the head coaching position at SMU. James will go through the draft process, working out with and visiting NBA teams to see where he may be selected and use that information to decide his next step.
NBA NEWS & SCORES: Bronny James, 2024 NBA Draft, LeBron James Updates
His decision is a major one as it will also impact the decision his dad, Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James, makes this offseason. LeBron has stated that one of his goals before he retires is to play alongside his son in an NBA game. Whichever team ends up drafting Bronny could greatly increase their odds of landing LeBron in free agency as well.
It will be something people keep a close eye on. If LeBron is still deadset on playing at least one season with his son, there are certainly teams around the league who will use a draft pick on Bronny, even if he isn’t the most highly regarded prospect, if it means his dad will be joining the team as well.
