Why The New York Knicks Do The Deal

Strictly speaking, the Knicks aren’t solely interested in acquiring LeVert here. They’re interested in acquiring his expiring contract. 

After all, Fournier’s runs considerably longer. With that said, the Knicks do seem to be interested in stockpiling tradeable veteran contracts. That’s ok – they’ll have an inside track on resigning LeVert, and probably at a more manageable amount. 

Unless, of course, he breaks out. In that case, the Knicks move the deal. If LeVert finally makes good on the potential fans have long seen in him in a Knicks uniform, the Knicks can pivot. Suddenly, they may be acquiring a star player here. 

Of course, some will suggest that they may be giving one up. With that said, the Knicks don’t seem to see the same promise in Reddish that some do.

That’s another benefit of the deal for the Knicks – it allows them to cut ties with a player they’re clearly not interested in.
