The New York Knicks are showing no fear as they gear up to face the Philadelphia 76ers. In fact, if the matchup gets any easier for them, they’ll gladly accept it.

According to former NBA player and current analyst Tim Legler, the Knicks should be feeling confident about their chances right now.

Speaking on ESPN’s Get Up, Legler highlighted Joel Embiid’s current physical condition as a potential advantage for the Knicks. He noted that Embiid, despite his prowess, isn’t operating at full strength.

“If I’m the Knicks, and I’m watching that game, I am licking my chops right now because Joel Embiid is not right.”

Legler also pointed out that the Sixers narrowly avoided an early playoff exit thanks to Nicolas Batum’s heroics against the Miami Heat, suggesting that this version of the team might struggle against the Knicks.

While Legler acknowledged Embiid’s ability to score, he emphasized that the star center isn’t his usual dominant self defensively. This plays into the Knicks’ strengths, as they’ve established themselves as the grittiest and most physically imposing team in the league this season. Their tough defense is expected to make life difficult for Embiid.

Additionally, Legler highlighted the challenge of containing Jalen Brunson, who has emerged as one of the most explosive point guards in the league. Brunson’s ability to drive to the rim could pose problems for the Sixers’ defense, particularly if Embiid is unable to provide his usual defensive presence.

While Embiid remains one of the game’s top talents when healthy, his limitations could hinder the Sixers’ chances against the Knicks.

Despite the New York Knicks already being favored in this first-round series due to their strong finish to the regular season, Embiid’s health concerns could tilt the odds even further in their favor.
