It may seem paradoxical, but sometimes, there’s value in losing in the NBA.
Lately, it’s been the talk of the town. With top prospects Victor Wembanyama and Scoot Henderson on the horizon, “tanking” is a regular topic of conversation for NBA fans.
With that said, it doesn’t appear to be something the Detroit Pistons are interested in discussing.
When the Pistons acquired Alec Burks, Nerlens Noel, and Kemba Walker this summer, it wasn’t clear what their intention was. Perhaps they simply wanted some solid veterans around to guide their young roster.
On the other hand, when they landed Bojan Bogdanovic, it sent a different message: if they can help it, the Pistons will win games this year.

At the same time, they could always pivot midseason. This is an improved roster with plenty of promising young players, but it doesn’t exactly project as a playoff lock, either.
If the Pistons are closer to the bottom of the standings than the top by midseason, don’t be surprised if they launch an all-out tanking effort.
