These two sides may both be stockpiling draft capital, but they likely have very different plans in terms of how they aim to ultimately improve. 

The Knicks, currently, love draft capital. With that said, it feels unlikely that this organization is looking to gradually build a contender through the draft. In fact, everyone knows the Knicks are eying star players. 

After all, they spend most of the summer pursuing Donovan Mitchell. While that pursuit failed, it told us everything we need to know about the Knicks. They don’t need to hang onto young players with upside like Quickley and Reddish – they’ll want veterans who can compliment a star as soon as possible. 

Richardson is one such veteran. Still, this deal is about adding another pick to their collection more than anything.
