Why The Sacramento Kings Do The Deal
The Kings are giving up the best player in this deal. For a win-now club, that may be counterintuitive. For the Kings, this is a two-for-one.
On offense, McDermott can replicate Harrison Barnes serviceably. In fact, given how much of this offense is likely to run through Domantas Sabonis and De’Aaron Fox, he could play it better. McDermott can’t create his own shot like Barnes, but he’s a little more reliable from distance.
Of course, he’s far from the defensive player that Harrison Barnes is. With that in mind, the question becomes this: is that sacrifice worth the addition of Rose?
We believe so. Rose could be the perfect sixth man for this team. He’s developed into one of the best floor spacing point guards in the NBA, so he can co-exist with Sabonis and Fox. On the other hand, he can still run an offense when called upon to. Rose can carry the second unit, and also spend spot minutes with the starters.
