How This Trade Impacts Washington Wizards
The Washington Wizards would love to add another All-Star to its lineup in Donovan Mitchell. They also have to have some awareness and know that their trade package, as presently constituted, likely won’t hold up against what other teams can offer.
If they are serious about pursuing Mitchell, they need to find a way to convince the New York Knicks to accept taking the protections off their 2023 first-round pick. Certainly easier said than done as the Knicks are also in the running for Mitchell. Would they actively help another team vying for him, which would lead to them having to part with more assets?
It would be a major risk, as the Wizards are sacrificing a large chunk of their rotation in this deal. But, combined with Bradley Beal and Kristaps Porzingis, they would have an intriguing Big 3 to build the rest of the roster around.
Mitchell, Beal and Porzingis would have incredible potential on the offensive side of the ball. Will Barton, Monte Morris, Delon Wright, Corey Kispert and Daniel Gafford are solid complementary rotation pieces as well. If they could sign a few capable veterans to fill in at the forward spots, the Wizards could be in business.

They are committed to Beal for the long haul, so they might as well go as all-in as possible to raise the ceiling of this team as far as they can. There would be some kinks to work out, as Beal and Mitchell aren’t natural point guards, but they have the playmaking chops to run the offense.
Three All-Star caliber players on one roster is tough to come by. If the opportunity presents itself it will be tough for the Wizards to pass up on that chance.
