How This Deal Impacts Brooklyn Nets
The Brooklyn Nets have to make the most of this Kevin Durant situation. It will impact the franchise for years to come depending on the package that they receive in return.
There are no plans to bottom out, as they want to remain competitive as soon as this season. But, at the same time, they have an eye toward the future and want to bring in some high-end, young talent and draft capital.
This trade with the Cleveland Cavaliers accomplishes that. The Nets would basically be going back to where they were in 2019 before Durant and Kyrie Irving joined the team.
Jarrett Allen and Caris LeVert were both part of that young core that was coming together nicely along with D’Angelo Russell under Kenny Atkinson.

Allen has developed into an All-Star and is one of the best defensive centers in the NBA. LeVert’s development has been stalled at times because of being sidelined, but the Nets know what he is capable of.
Isaac Okoro is the wild card in this deal. He has the potential to be a very good two-way player, possessing the tools to become a multi-positional defender, but his offense needs a lot of work. If the Nets can develop him, they would be getting a solid wing player.

The draft capital restocks the Nets cupboard after trading away so much in recent deals. They would have the assets to swing another blockbuster deal should one arise or continue building organically through the draft, which is what put them in a position to sign Durant and Irving in the first place.
