Why The Utah Jazz Do The Trade
In the modern NBA, trading a star has come to typically mean receiving a whole bunch of draft picks.
On some level, it makes sense. If you’re trading your superstar player, odds are, you’re starting from scratch. If that’s the plan, what better assets could you ask for than the ability to select which young players you’re adding to your squad?
With that said, is it the only viable path towards moving your star? Shouldn’t a young player with star potential hold more value?
After all, that’s exactly what you’re hoping to convert those draft picks into. The Utah Jazz could get 10 first-round picks, and if one of them flashed Tyrese Maxey’s potential, they’d be happy with their return for Mitchell.
