Why The Oklahoma City Thunder Do The Deal
The Thunder have amassed an absolutely absurd amount of draft capital over recent years.
So absurd, in fact, that they’d still have plenty to spare in the wake of his trade. That may be hard to wrap your head around, but it’s true. The Thunder could swap seven first-round picks for Kevin Durant and still have assets to round out the roster around him.
Let’s assume the Thunder did exactly that. Suddenly, they’d be strengthening a roster already featuring Kevin Durant, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, Chet Holmgren, Josh Giddey and Lu Dort.
Depending on who else they added, that’s a strong group. Much of their success might depend on Chet Holmgren’s NBA readiness. On the other hand, if he looks like needs more time to develop, guess what?
