Why The Indiana Pacers Do The Deal 

In simple terms, the Indiana Pacers do this deal because Deandre Ayton is significantly younger than Myles Turner. In other words, they’re rebuilding. 

We touched on Ayton’s potential to improve. That’s all that matters to this organization. As it stands, Ayton is a marginally above-average perimeter defender for a big man. 

If he could be a significantly above-average one, this trade could look great for the Pacers down the road. 

This deal probably won’t improve the Pacers in 2022-23, but it doesn’t have to. Again, they’re focused on the future. With a young core of Tyrese Haliburton, Ayton, and Benedict Mathurin, their rebuild is off to a solid start.
