Phoenix Suns Receive: C Myles Turner
Indiana Pacers Receive: C Deandre Ayton
On the one hand, the situation between the Phoenix Suns and Deandre Ayton is unfortunate. That’s not to say it isn’t somewhat understandable. He is an impactful player. He just happens to be a type that’s fallen out of favor by 2022.
He’s a non-shooter. In 2022, that alone makes it hard to offer a player, unless his other skills are absolutely exceptional, a max contract.
Furthermore, Ayton is capable of surviving switches, but he’s not one of the league’s best bigs in that area either.
That feels like an avenue towards improvement he could explore. For now, he’s a drop coverage big man who doesn’t space the floor.

It’s hard to put a price on Ayton’s worth, but if Phoenix doesn’t think it’s $30 million a year, that’s fair.
This deal helps them modernize with the floor-spacing Turner. Is that enough for them to part ways with their 2018 number one pick?
