2. Timberwolves Reset The Trade Market
The Minnesota Timberwolves have spent a ton of assets this offseason. They signed Karl-Anthony Towns to a supermax that will pay him $224 million. After that, they landed the defensive-minded big man they were hoping to pair with him in Rudy Gobert.
That acquisition of Gobert is something that will be felt around the league. Not only will teams have to deal with a very talented jumbo frontcourt in Minnesota now, as Towns is one of the best offensive centers in the NBA and Gobert is arguably the best defensive one, but trade negotiations will be changed as well.
Trading three unprotected first-round picks, a top-five protected pick and the No. 22 overall pick in the draft just two weeks ago is a huge price to pay. The Timberwolves just reset the market for trades as a result.
Teams are now going to be asking for even more in return for their players after seeing what Gobert landed for the Jazz. Gobert just turned 30 years old and has four years remaining on his contract.

All of a sudden, trading three picks with a swap for a 25-year-old All-Star point guard as the Hawks did doesn’t seem so bad. Minnesota will have to become contenders for that trade to be worthwhile, as they will be impacted by it for the rest of the decade.
