5. Hawks Follow Through On Promise To Shake Things Up
Last offseason the Atlanta Hawks decided to run things back with the same roster. It was a move that was tough to argue against as they had just made an unexpected run to the Eastern Conference Finals. However, the 2021-22 season did not produce the same results.
Atlanta had to defeat the Charlotte Hornets and Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Play-In Tournament just to make the postseason. They earned the No. 8 seed but were outclassed by the Miami Heat, losing in five games.
As a result, Travis Schlenk vowed that the team would not have a repeat of the last offseason. They were going to shake things up and remake the roster and that is exactly what they did. Atlanta swung a blockbuster trade with the San Antonio Spurs, acquiring Dejounte Murray.
It was not cheap, as they sent three unprotected first-round picks to the Spurs and included one pick swap. Danilo Gallinari was part of the trade but was immediately waived by San Antonio, which is embracing a rebuild.

After that, the Hawks made a deal with the Sacramento Kings. Kevin Huerter was sent out west in exchange for Justin Holiday, Maurice Harkless and a 2024 lottery-protected first-round pick. Atlanta very well may not be done as there have been plenty of rumors centered around John Collins as well.
