San Antonio Spurs & Houston Rockets Will Both Sell Draft Picks
Both the San Antonio Spurs and Houston Rockets have three first-round picks each in the 2022 NBA Draft. While that seems like a great way to add an influx of talent quickly and cheaply, it can present some problems as well.
The Spurs currently have 12 players signed on for the 2022-2023 NBA season; the Rockets will have 16 once their Christian Wood trade is finalized. Keeping all of their picks would take both teams over the limit for allowable rostered players for next season, as the Spurs also have a second-round selection.
Rather than have to sort through their roster and make cuts, both teams could try to consolidate their later picks for either an established player or an earlier selection in the draft.
Either way, it would save them at least one roster spot and will ultimately be beneficial for both the Spurs and Rockets.
