How This Trade Impacts Golden State Warriors
The Golden State Warriors could be looking for some help this offseason in the middle. If they lose Kevon Looney in free agency, they will need a starting center, which they will likely have to fill via trade.
If they do not want to part ways with any of their young pieces, such as James Wiseman, Moses Moody, or Jonathan Kuminga, Andrew Wiggins is likely their best trade chip.
Given how well he performed this season, making his first All-Star game, and that he’s been their most consistent player in the NBA Finals, they can probably bring back a player of legitimate value.
So, Golden State cashes in on this deal with the Cleveland Cavaliers, acquiring their starting center of the future in fellow All-Star, Jarrett Allen. There has been some talk of the Warriors being interested in Rudy Gobert of the Utah Jazz, but Allen would be cheaper to acquire via trade.

He showed this season that he can anchor a defense, which is what the Warriors would be looking for from their center. Allen is more than capable of holding his own on the perimeter as well, offering a similar impact as Looney but with a much higher ceiling.
In addition to Allen, the Warriors are getting the experienced Cedi Osman, who can help fill any holes that may be created on the wing or forward spot in free agency. Golden State will also get the chance to add another good young player to the mix, should they choose, with the lottery selection they are receiving in the deal.

Moving up 14 spots costs them the No. 51 overall pick and a future first-rounder. From Golden State’s perspective, it is a worthwhile price as they fill a potential long-term need with Allen, offering the Cavaliers a little protection since Wiggins is on an expiring deal.
