If the Charlotte Hornets happen to pass on Johnny Davis twice, the Atlanta Hawks would essentially win the lottery with him falling right into their laps. Davis does have flaws in his game — mainly a lack of athleticism and a reliable outside jumper — but the Hawks have the roster and system to cover up for his weaknesses while thriving with the addition of his strengths.
One of the key needs that Atlanta must address this summer is to identify another playmaker to pair with Trae Young: either someone who can act as a secondary creator alongside Trae or run the offense when Young is taking a breather. Johnny Davis can do both.
With Trae’s perimeter gravity and reputation, defenses are sure to load up on the All-NBA point guard. Davis would be able to take advantage of the Atlanta Hawks’ opponents that are overplaying Young, either by attacking the cup or operating within a wide-open mid-range area.
Davis projects to be a versatile enough defender to match up against either guard position and would be able to handle the tougher matchup night-to-night and free Trae up to focus on his offensive orchestration. Adding a point-of-attack stopper of Davis’s caliber might be enough to take the Atlanta Hawks’ defense over the hump and compensate for Young’s physical limitations.

Davis would be an absolute steal with the 16th-overall pick and should be a perfect match for the Atlanta Hawks as well.
