Miami Heat Receive: F Patrick Williams, 2023 First-Round Pick (CHI), 2027 First-Round Pick (CHI)
Chicago Bulls Receive: G Tyler Herro
This trade, at first glance, may not make intuitive sense for the Miami Heat. It looks like a package that would be more fitting for a rebuilding team.
Alternatively, it’s a package that lands them more assets to use in a trade with another rebuilding team.
This deal assumes a number of conditions. Firstly, it assumes that the Bulls kept LaVine. They’re making a win-now move. It also assumes that at least one of the stars rumored to be available, such as Bradley Beal or Donovan Mitchell, remains available.
If those conditions hold, this deal is about positioning themselves to land one of those stars for Miami. Granted, any one of those teams may simply prefer Herro: but he’ll be unavailable on the win-now Bulls.

The Heat take an asset off the market and add to their own asset base with this deal. In 2022, it’s increasingly popular to receive multiple picks in return for your disgruntled star. After this trade, the Heat will be in a better position to offer them one.
