Miami Heat Receive: F DeMar DeRozan, G Alex Caruso
Chicago Bull Receive: G Kyle Lowry, G Tyler Herro

This deal finds old friends DeRozan and Lowry being swapped for one another. If they were find themselves teammates again, it won’t be in 2022-23 if this deal comes to fruition.

This one also finds the Heat receiving defensive ace Alex Caruso in addition to a marquee name. DeRozan is substantially older than either of LaVine or Herro, so his trade value isn’t the same. The Heat would have little incentive to swap Lowry’s contract and Herro for him. It wouldn’t shock anybody if Herro outperformed DeRozan as early as next season.

The combination of DeRozan and Caruso ought to make the Heat a stronger team next year. Meanwhile, the Bulls will likely be attracted to this deal if they lose LaVine in free agency. They’ll be rebuilding in that event, so adding the 22-year-old Herro to the fold makes great sense.

On the other hand, let’s say the Bulls do retain LaVine. Adding Herro could still give their offense a tremendous boost. They’ll still be interested in adding Herro, but it won’t necessarily be easy.
