If Zach LaVine were to leave the Chicago Bulls, it would be hard not to feel some sympathy for the organization.

After all, this club has done everything in its power to put a winning group around LaVine. They traded significant draft capital to acquire Nikola Vucevic. They signed DeMar DeRozan and Alex Caruso last summer. The Bulls pushed all their chips in to build a quality team this summer.

Was it worth it?

It’s hard to say, but honestly, probably not. For all of their efforts, the Bulls built a 46-win team that got eliminated in the first round. They largely eschewed defense in favor of point production, which served to raise this team’s floor while limiting their ceiling. Now, they’re old, draft poor, and generally limited in avenues to improvement.

That doesn’t sound like the league’s most appealing situation. We’re predicting that Zach LaVine opts for a different one as an unrestricted free agent this summer.
