Golden State Warriors Receive: F Jae’Sean Tate, F David Nwaba, 2022 First-Round Pick (No. 17 – HOU)
Houston Rockets Receive: C James Wiseman
When the Golden State Warriors selected Wiseman with the number two pick, it’s unlikely that they were hoping to flip him for two role players and a mid-round selection just two years later.
Such is life in the NBA. If Wiseman makes good on his potential, this trade will look bad for the Warriors in hindsight. On the other hand, if he never develops properly in a crowded Warriors rotation, they’re likely to get far less for him down the road.
This trade has the Warriors hedging their bets and cutting ties with the big man. They’re getting two quality defensive wings and a first-round pick in exchange. Tate especially figures to make them an even more formidable squad in 2022-23.
In fact, the Houston Rockets may not want to part with Tate at all. Wiseman may have more upside, but Tate is a proven commodity. At 26, he’s a culture-setting defender who can grow with this young core.
