Making the Case: Indiana Pacers
The Indiana Pacers were contenders for years in the Eastern Conference but that is not the case anymore. The franchise has taken a step back and is looking to rebuild from the ground up.
Once Domantas Sabonis was traded, it seemed like a matter of time before Malcolm Brogdon was on his way out. He survived the season likely mostly due to being ineligible to be traded, but he could find himself being on the way out this offseason.
The Pacers would essentially be doing what a lot of rebuilding teams tend to do by parting with an older veteran talent to a contending while receiving a draft asset for making the deal.
The structure of Mike Conley’s contract is a favorable one if the Pacers were to be interested in facilitating another trade to take on an assiet. A point guard needy team could be open to acquiring him after striking out in free agency.

Conley is only guaranteed $14.32 million of his $24.36 million salary in 2022-24, then his deal expires. If a team were to take a chance this offseason on acquiring him, they could move on without it being crippling to their long-term outlook.
