How This Deal Impacts Indiana Pacers
The Indiana Pacers reshuffled the deck and the only veteran that was left standing was Myles Turner. Had he not been injured ahead of the deadline, as a foot injury ultimately kept him sidelined for the remainder of the season, he likely would have been moved as well.
Indiana had a high asking price for him, as they were seeking two first-round picks. They aren’t getting draft compensation in this deal, instead, sending a second-round pick to the Brooklyn Nets, but they would have to be excited about getting Ben Simmons on the roster.
Simmons hasn’t played this season as he worked on his mental well-being and was overcoming a herniated disk in his back. Both are cause for concern, but when healthy, he is a difference-maker on the court.
He would give Rick Carlisle a lot of flexibility when it comes to lineups, as he can play point guard and keep Tyrese Haliburton off the ball to score the ball. Defensively Simmons is as versatile as anyone, as Indiana could have a starting lineup with everyone at least 6’5” with the ability to play multiple positions.

Given the direction they are going, parting ways with Turner and Buddy Hield shouldn’t be too much for the Pacers. There were rumors they were going to flip Hield upon acquiring him as he likely isn’t in their long-term plans. Turner was, but they have some younger players that can soak up minutes in the middle.
