How This Trade Impacts Brooklyn Nets
The Brooklyn Nets are going to have some tough decisions to make this offseason. Nicolas Claxton’s impending restricted free agency is one of the tasks they will have to figure out.
Can Brooklyn afford to hand him a long-term deal? It could be tough to work out with a tax bill that will be increasing, especially if the team has to give Kyrie Irving a new contract this offseason depending on if he opts out of his current deal or not.
With Day’Ron Sharpe also on the depth chart, moving on from Claxton seems likely. But, the Nets will not want to let him walk for nothing, so they work on a sign-and-trade deal with the Oklahoma City Thunder.
Yes, Claxton has some upside, but this is a great deal for the Nets. Kenrich Williams is what every contending team is looking for in a 3-and-D forward that can defend multiple positions. He can fill numerous needs in the lineup and is versatile enough to play different roles as well.

Mike Muscala adds another dimension to the team that they are currently lacking as a floor-stretching big man. That kind of skill set is imperative to have on a roster to surround Ben Simmons with.
Williams and Muscala also don’t make a ton of money, as they are owed $5.5 million combined next season. That is some solid production for the Nets to pick up only parting ways with a player who isn’t in their long-term plans.
