Minnesota Timberwolves Receive: G Svi Mykhailiuk, 2024 First-Round Pick (Lottery Protected)
Toronto Raptors Receive: C Naz Reid

Here, the Toronto Raptors acquire a nice rotation piece without giving up any of their essential players. They’ll have to part with a lottery pick in the process.

It should be a worthy price to pay. At 6’9, Naz Reid may not be a traditional big man, but he surely protects the rim like one. He’s also a capable floor spacer. In essence, he’s a budget Myles Turner. Since the Raptors are acquiring him at a fraction of the cost, they should be satisfied with that.

As for the Wolves, they’re bolstering their weak wing depth. Mykhailiuk may not be a three-point marksman. He’s shooting 30.6% from deep this season. He’s still a solid defensive player who can heat up from distance at times.

More importantly, they’re receiving a draft pick to compensate for what’s a marginal roster downgrade. The pick is lottery protected specifically because the downgrade is marginal. The Raptors would benefit from the addition of Reid, but not so much that they’d give up an unprotected first-round pick.

This is a solid deal for both sides, but if the Raptors want to get bolder, they’ll have to part with more.
