Oh, how the mighty have fallen. It feels like it was yesterday that we were marveling at former NBA MVP Russell Westbrook’s ability to rack up triple-doubles.
His accomplishments will inevitably punch him a well-deserved ticket to the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame. He will deserve it, and nobody with an ounce of logic will question that.
None of which speaks to his value in the current NBA. It appears to be comically low. His questionable decision-making and chronic inefficiency appear to now be more trouble than they’re worth.
Granted, his fit with the Los Angeles Lakers was always shakey. Taking the ball out of LeBron James’ hands is not traditionally a way to endear yourself to NBA observers.

Furthermore, Anthony Davis may not be an outright non-shooter, but he’s not exactly the ideal stretch big to pair with the explosive point guard either.
This season was an abject disaster for Westbrook and the Lakers. This offseason, their front office will be tasked with trying to find value for his monstrous contract. If he is moved, he could receive a buyout from a potential trade suitor, or be waived using the stretch-provision.
