Sacramento Kings
If signing Russell Westbrook is widely regarded as a questionable decision, perhaps the Sacramento Kings aren’t a dark-horse candidate to land him. They’ve made a habit of making questionable decisions throughout their recent history.
The Kings are looking to make a serious playoff push in 2022-23. They wouldn’t have traded Tyrese Haliburton for Domantas Sabonis at this year’s deadline if they weren’t.
Arguably, Westbrook isn’t a good fit with Sabonis. He thrives on the low block, surrounded by floor-spacers in the event that the defense opts to double team him.
Another player who doesn’t fit that description: De’Aaron Fox. Apparently, the Kings aren’t too concerned with fit. Why not go all-in and add Russell Westbrook to the fold?

His play-style is similar enough to Fox’s that he could replicate his production off the bench to an extent. While pairing the two in the backcourt for long stretches would be ill-advised, they could be lethal in transition for short bursts.

All of which may be mental gymnastics. Between Westbrook, Fox, and Sabonis, all three of the Sacramento Kings’ highest usage players would be subpar floor-spacers. It may not be a great move. It wouldn’t shock us if the Kings made it anyway.
