The direction of the Los Angeles Lakers is clear, and it has not worked to this point. There has been a steep decline after a championship in the first season with LeBron James and Anthony Davis. It will be interesting to see the changes get made, but they will likely stay the course.
As long as James is on the roster, this team will look to win right away. When Westbrook was acquired, Los Angeles lost plenty on the defensive end of the floor and depth all over the roster.
Terrence Ross is the type of player that can bring a little back. This is not to say that he is the missing piece for a title, but he is a known scorer that can get production.
Ross can play with stars because he knows his role. This season, Ross has struggled from three-point range but is a weapon in the midrange. He can create his shot and handle the ball in the half-court. He is the type of scorer that James would be able to set up nicely once he penetrates the defense.

The Lakers are in turmoil this season, which will not let up in the offseason. This will not impact Ross or his mindset coming to a new team. After a season where they missed the playoffs, all eyes will be on the organization to see how they can make the necessary improvements.
Most importantly, Terrence Ross is a professional and a quality locker room personality. Making a move of this nature gives a chance for the front office to remain on the same path and land a productive scorer off the bench. If the Lakers turn things around next season, they will need that depth right away.
