Find A Way To Move Davis Bertans’ Contract
In the deal that sent Porzingis to the Wizards for Dinwiddie, the Mavericks also ended up with Davis Bertans. For his career, Bertans has shot 39.7% from three-point range, making him look like a solid acquisition since the Mavericks are a poor three-point shooting team, but since arriving in Dallas, Bertans has only shot 31.9% from deep and his contract is not favorable whatsoever.
Under contract through the 2024-25 season, Bertans is owed a total of $49 million with no opt-out clauses for either him or the team, leaving the Mavericks little to no cap flexibility.
Maybe with a full offseason to build chemistry with his teammates, Davis Bertans could ultimately prove to be a perimeter weapon for the Mavericks, but it makes a lot more sense for them to try and trade him while they can.
Not only is his $49 million price tag a liability for Dallas but being under contract for the next three years does not sit well for the Mavericks, especially since they need to build around Doncic right now.

It is very possible that the Mavs will have to try and “dump” Davis Bertans’ salary to a rebuilding franchise by including Josh Green and a draft pick, but this is a necessary move for this franchise not only to remain below the tax line but to have any shot of bringing back Jalen Brunson in free agency.
