3 Mavericks Trade Ideas To Continue Building Around Doncic

Dallas Mavericks, Luka Doncic, NBA Trade Rumors

For years, the Dallas Mavericks have been looking to put the pieces together in order to compete for a chance to get back to the NBA Finals.

2011 proved to be a big year for the Mavericks as a franchise, as they went on to defeat the Miami Heat in the NBA Finals to claim their first title in team history, but since then, the Mavericks have gone to the playoffs six different times and have failed to win a playoff series.

Could Luka Doncic and Dallas put an end to this playoff series drought and at least advance to the Western Conference Semifinals?

It is definitely possible given that they are a top-tier defensive team in this league, but the offense is where they struggle and could ultimately falter in a seven-game series.

Other than Luka Doncic, the rest of the Mavericks’ roster is a big question mark when it comes to scoring and while Spencer Dinwiddie and Jalen Brunson have stepped up as of late, the offense could be a huge problem in the postseason, especially if they run into a team like the Jazz or Timberwolves in the first round, two of the better scoring team in the league.

No matter what happens in the postseason, Dallas will be entering the offseason with holes to fill on the offensive end of things. Their only problem is that they are projected to be about $10 million over the tax line for the 2022-23 season entering the offseason and Jalen Brunson, one of their only offensive threats outside of Doncic, is set to be a free agent.

Between trying to keep Brunson long-term and dealing with the contracts on their roster, the Mavericks are going to have a hard time getting below the tax line for next season, which is why Dallas could end up being very busy on the trade market.

Recently acquiring Spencer Dinwiddie at the trade deadline in a deal that sent Kristpas Porzingis to Washington, first-time GM Nico Harrison has proven that he is not afraid to make significant changes to this Mavericks’ roster.

Entering the offseason, Harrison and the front office will not only be tasked with trying to move contracts but add high-level talents as well to compliment the play of Luka Doncic, which is why the Mavericks could look to pursue one of these three trade ideas.
