Attention Turns To Jerami Grant Trade
At the NBA trade deadline this season, Jerami Grant was the hottest name on the trade block and was close to being dealt, but the Detroit Pistons decided to hold onto their star forward.
Now, getting ready to enter the final year of his contract, there is no better time for the Pistons to explore trade opportunities for Grant than at the 2022 NBA Draft, where they could potentially add more young talent and draft picks for their best player.
Since joining the Pistons, Grant has averaged 21.0 points, 4.4 rebounds, 2.6 assists and has shot 35.3% from three-point range, proving that he is much more than just a “3-and-D” player on the wing like he was utilized as in Denver and Oklahoma City.
Already having a high draft pick in the 2022 NBA Draft coming back to them as a result of them being one of the worst teams in the league this season, the Pistons could look to move Jerami Grant for more draft picks in 2022.

The Athletic’s Shams Charania reported recently that the Portland Trail Blazers will be pursuing Jerami Grant in the offseason, but they will not be the only team looking to possibly add Grant.
The Wizards, Knicks, Mavericks, Lakers and Kings all reached out to the Pistons ahead of the NBA trade deadline in regards to Grant’s availability and a few more teams could show a level of interest in the offseason if the Pistons are selling.
Should he be traded, Jerami Grant is wanting to go to a team where he can not only hold the same role as a primary scoring option he currently holds with the Pistons, but also receive a contract extension that is fair given his contributions over the last few seasons. This will directly factor into a potential trade in the offseason.

Veteran big man Kelly Olynyk is also expected to generate a level of interest in the offseason, as he will have two more years left on his contract, Olynyk signed a three-year, $37.1 million deal with the Pistons ahead of the 2021-22 season and with the final year of his contract being partially-guaranteed for $3 million, it is much more likely that Detroit will look to unload Olynyk near next season’s NBA trade deadline than during the upcoming offseason.
