Doc Rivers – Philadelphia 76ers

One of the greatest coaches in NBA history, Doc Rivers has done nothing but find success with any franchise he has coached.

In Boston, Rivers won a championship in 2008 and he was a big part of the turnaround for the Clippers from 2013-20, but this is a huge year for him with the Philadelphia 76ers.

Doc Rivers drew some scrutiny after the 76ers lost to the Atlanta Hawks in the Eastern Conference Semifinals a season ago and now, with Joel Embiid presumably being this year’s MVP and also having James Harden, there are no excuses that can be made for the 76ers not having “enough talent” to overcome obstacles in the postseason.

If the 76ers come up short again either in the first round of the Eastern Conference Semifinals, people are going to begin questioning whether or not Doc Rivers is the right guy for the job, even though he is one of the winningest head coaches in NBA history.

This season is “championship or bust” for the Philadelphia 76ers and both GM Elton Brand and team president Daryl Morey have made this clear by giving up the assets they did for James Harden at the trade deadline.

To say Doc Rivers is on the “hot seat” is idiotic given that he just coached the 76ers to the 1-seed last season and potentially again this season, as they are 1.5 games out of first place in the Eastern Conference, but Philadelphia expects to win and they have not done that in the playoffs through the years.

In a similar position to that of the Jazz, the 76ers need to reach the Eastern Conference Finals at the very least for conversations about Doc Rivers’ job security to settle down.
