How This Trade Impacts Charlotte Hornets
There was a lot of chatter about the Charlotte Hornets looking to upgrade in the middle this season. They were connected to Myles Turner of the Indiana Pacers, but when he injured his foot, their attention went elsewhere.
They landed Montrezl Harrell, who they pursued during free agency in 2020, from the Washington Wizards. He is a solid addition to the rotation, but he is scheduled to be a free agent this upcoming offseason so the need for a center will still be there.
With Richaun Holmes falling out of favor, makes for a logical target for the Hornets. He would slide right into their starting five and is signed for three more seasons beyond this one. Acquiring him would also push Mason Plumlee to the second unit, providing a solid upgrade.
Holmes is a good defender and would give opponents fits as a pick-and-roll partner with LaMelo Ball. Not that the Hornets need more offense, but Holmes is a much bigger threat on that end of the floor than Plumlee is.

Moving on from Oubre will open up some minutes on the wing for younger players such as James Bouknight and Kai Jones as well. It may also enable the Hornets to afford to pay P.J. Washington who is eligible for an extension this offseason.
