How This Trade Impacts Sacramento Kings
Upon acquiring Domantas Sabonis, the Sacramento Kings made their intentions clear as to what they planned on doing rotation-wise. He was deployed as the starting center, pushing Richaun Holmes to the second unit.
After signing a four-year contract worth more than $46.5 million this offseason, a move relegating him to the second unit likely wasn’t in the plans. His role was diminished greatly, as six of the 13 times he played fewer than 20 minutes in a game came after the Sabonis trade.
Holmes likely isn’t a fit for the Kings long-term, so flipping him into a player that fits better in the rotation makes sense. Kelly Oubre Jr. would fill a major hole on the wing and step right into the lineup as the starting small forward.
Oubre would bring a scoring punch to the team on the wing that has a solid backcourt trio in De’Aaron Fox, Davion Mitchell, and Donte DiVencenzo. He has shown this season just how explosive of a scorer he can be with the Hornets.

He would bring some versatility to the team as well with the ability to play shooting guard or power forward. Including him in a lineup with Fox, Mitchell, Harrison Barnes and Sabonis with DiVincenzo as the sixth man should be enough to challenge for a playoff spot next season.
