Miami Heat Receive: F Dillon Brooks
Memphis Grizzlies Receive: G/F Duncan Robinson, MIA 2024 1st Round Pick (Swap, More Favorable to MEM)

Should the Heat look to trade Duncan Robinson, they will not only be looking to free up some cap space to remain under the tax line for the 2022-23 season, but Miami will want to get a fair return that can help them contend for future championships.

They are not going to just trade Duncan Robinson for the sake of trading him, which is why Memphis would have to give up something of value in return for the sharpshooting wing.

Desmond Bane could be a player that the Heat looks to as a fair asset to acquire in exchange for Robinson, but the Grizzlies would much rather give up Dillon Brooks than Bane in this scenario.

This is not saying that the Grizzlies “will” give up Dillon Brooks, but he appears to be one of their only options in a trade for Duncan Robinson that makes sense both monetarily and contractually, as Brooks is going to be entering the offseason on an expiring deal.

While he has been a key two-way talent on the wing for them, Brooks does seem a little expendable in Memphis due to their success with him off the floor this season.

Dillon Brooks has only played in 23 games this season due to numerous injuries, most recently an ankle injury that kept him sidelined for over two months.

The Grizzlies are 33-14 without Brooks this season, leading some around the league to speculate about his long-term future in Memphis.

Should they want to keep Dillon Brooks, who will be an unrestricted free agent following the 2022-23 season, the Grizzlies will likely need to pay the two-way wing an estimated $60 million to $70 million over the course of a new four-year contract.

Maybe Memphis will settle on keeping Brooks long-term, but they have won games without him and with Ja Morant expected to receive a massive rookie extension in the offseason, Dillon Brooks could quickly turn into a second thought for the Grizzlies.
